Our dedicated team is committed to taking a proactive stance against diseases that historically presented limited treatment alternatives, paving the way for more comprehensive and effective solutions.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma represents a collective term for a group of eye conditions that harm the optic nerve, hindering the accurate transmission of visual information from the eye to the brain. While glaucoma tests focus on detecting increased eye pressure, a definitive diagnosis can only be obtained through a comprehensive eye examination. Although heightened eye pressure is a significant indicator of glaucoma, it is not the sole criterion.

Treatment for glaucoma varies based on the severity of the condition and may encompass medications, traditional (bladed) surgery, laser surgery, or a combination of these interventions. Initial approaches often involve medicated eye drops aimed at reducing intraocular pressure (IOP) to manage glaucoma.

Given the typically painless nature of glaucoma, individuals may unintentionally neglect consistent use of prescribed eye drops crucial for controlling eye pressure and preventing permanent eye damage. Regrettably, non-compliance with the prescribed glaucoma medication regimen is a leading factor contributing to blindness resulting from this condition.

Macular Degeneration

Currently, there is no definitive cure for macular degeneration. However, various treatment alternatives are available to either decelerate the progression of the eye disease or enhance vision, depending on the specific type of macular degeneration you may be encountering. To gain a comprehensive understanding of the associated risks and limitations of these treatment options, it is advisable to have an open and candid discussion with your eye doctor.

The approach to treating dry macular degeneration begins with regular eye examinations, particularly for individuals over the age of 60. The objective is to identify the onset of Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) at an early stage. If detected, your doctor may recommend a specialized combination of high-dose zinc and antioxidants, proven to have efficacy in slowing down the progression of the disease.

For wet macular degeneration, treatment encompasses a range of possibilities, such as laser surgery, the use of light-activated dyes injected into the circulatory system, or direct injections of drugs into the eye to impede the growth of abnormal blood vessels characteristic of the wet form of the disease.

It's crucial to recognize that while undergoing any macular degeneration treatment, there are no guarantees of halting the disease, no assurances that the treatment won't require repetition, and a poignant reminder that restored vision is a rarity once lost.

Cataracts

Cataracts, an eye disease that leads to the clouding of the eyeball's lens, hinder the formation of clear images on the retina, resulting in varying degrees of blurred vision—ranging from mild to severe. Visit our website to view a brief video on cataracts.

Typically associated with the aging process, cataracts are prevalent in individuals over 80, with over half of Americans in this age group having either undergone cataract surgery or currently experiencing cataracts. This eye disorder manifests later in life as the structural composition of the lens undergoes age-related changes.

As part of our comprehensive eye health evaluation, we meticulously examine your lens for indications of cataract development. If a cataract is detected, and its clouding significantly disrupts your vision, our optometrists will guide you to a reputable surgeon for the only known cure for cataracts—surgery. Throughout the entire process, from pre-surgery assessments to post-surgery care, our team is committed to supporting you and ensuring a seamless experience.

Diabetic Eye Exams

We specialize in providing comprehensive diabetic eye exams tailored to meet the unique needs of individuals managing diabetes. Our dedicated team of experienced optometrists understands the critical importance of proactive eye care for diabetic patients. Regular eye exams play a pivotal role in early detection and management of diabetic retinopathy, a condition characterized by the abnormal changes in blood vessels within the retina. By incorporating advanced diagnostic technologies and a patient-centric approach, we strive to safeguard your vision and promote overall eye health.

For those navigating the challenges of diabetes, prioritizing regular eye exams is paramount. Diabetes can lead to a higher risk of developing eye-related complications, making proactive monitoring essential. Even in the absence of noticeable symptoms, diabetic eye exams can uncover subtle changes that may indicate the onset of issues like diabetic retinopathy. Early detection empowers us to implement timely interventions, potentially preventing or minimizing the impact of vision-threatening conditions. We are committed to providing thorough, compassionate care that emphasizes the significance of regular eye exams as a fundamental component of diabetic management.
